Before there was anything else there was Blue Ribbon Sports. The company, helmed by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman in 1964, would ultimately change its company name to Nike.

Then, in the mid 1970’s, they would begin keying on signature basketball endorsers. In 1977, George “Iceman” Gervin was one of them. A four-time scoring champion and an NBA Hall of Famer, his time then was spent with the San Antonio Spurs. The Iceman’s sneaker contract with Nike during that period is now up for auction.

Detailing the ins and outs of his Swoosh deal, along with some back and forth with adidas that insist that Gervin was paid $15,000 to wear their sneakers between 1977-1980, the minimum bid for the nostalgic Blue Ribbon Sports contract is currently $600. Learn more or place a bid here.
