words // Nick DePaula:

Once again this summer, George Kiel III and his Kiel Colon Cancer Foundation will be hosting its premier 3-on-3 sneaker-themed hoops tournament, the Kick & Roll Classic.

The tourney brings out basketball players from all over Texas and the US to compete in some their freshest kicks, all for a great cause. The event aims to raise awareness for Colon Cancer symptoms and urge people to be aware of possible preventative measures.

In addition to the high level hoops competition, there are also several prizes for categories like largest rotation, best sneaker and best vintage, and of course, the “Code Blue” award, highlighting the best blue shoe on hand, honoring the official color of Colon Cancer Awareness month.

“I’ve been amazed at how the event has grown over the past three years,” says George Kiel, founder of the Kiel Colon Cancer Foundation. “We have a ton of new prizes this year and a few, special NBA guests that attendees will enjoy.”

Benefitting the Kiel Colon Cancer Foundation’s research fund and sponsored by the Josh Childress Foundation, the third annual Kick & Roll Classic will take place on July 9th from 10 AM – 6 PM at the state-of- the-art Round Rock Sports Center facility. Two age groups – 15-17 and 18 and Up – will be eligible to play and, although a 3-on- 3 basketball tournament, up to six players will be allowed on each team.

You can register your own team, or sign up as a solo player, at the links below. Be sure to also check out the official recap video from last year’s Kick & Roll Classic.
