The Bata Shoe Museum is a historical library of sneakers, and their new “Out of the Box” Exhibition focuses on the relationship between the culture and status, masculinity and sports. Widely thought to be a modern occurrence, the connection between sneakers and status dates back to the early 19th Century. Elizabeth Semmelhack, Bata’s Senior Curator, gives a history lesson on the cultural and aesthetic development of everything from Air Jordans to Jimmy Choo shoes in a new video clip.
