Ibn Japser was never a singular talent. Although our introduction to him may have been, moonlighting as Kanye West’s barber, Japser was always a style aficionado and designer at heart. He’s proven so time after time, year after year, collaborating with Diamond Supply Co. and designing his own pieces for Cordova.
Stratica International, Japser’s new brand founded just months ago, serves as his latest endeavor. This one is unique in that it houses his first signature sneaker — the Broadway Rally Trainer. Revealing his prototype on Instagram, the same platform he famously debuted the adidas Yeezy Boost 750, Japser’s creation is a busy one, filled with varying textures juxtaposed against horizontal and vertical paneling.
A traditional lacing structure is finished with a midfoot strap overtop while the curved lace collar flows from the base of the shoe to its quarter panel. The trainer is also rich in color, joining its cream baselayer with supporting red, purple and light blue shades that contrast the subtle primary hue.
Japser didn’t indicate when his Stratica Broadway Rally Trainer would be available to the public. After previewing the prototype he’d only state “now the real work begins.”
