With two men in scoring position and two outs in the 12th inning, the game was on the line when a fly ball lofted in the shallow left field. A dropped ball would have put division rivals Boston Red Sox ahead deep into extra innings, but Jeter put his team and the game ahead of his body as he dove for the ball landing face first into an empty seat in the stands. Bruises and blood covered his face as he busted open his chin, but Jeter showed yet again the player his is.

This defining moment in Jeter’s career came while Derek was wearing the Jumpman Jet. This shoe featured unique perforation details across the upper that are represented on the Jeter Throwback as well as the DJ2 logo on the tongue.
