Fayetteville native J. Cole isn’t exactly known for his fashion sensibility. Yet, his affinity for hip hop history is well documented and celebrated. Having been compared to the likes of Nas and other spirit guides for the youthful rapper, Cole may not engulf himself in fashion like, say, Kanye West, but he certainly knows fashion history as it pertains to the culture he so gracefully represents.

That said, Cole’s Bally collaboration isn’t that hard to believe. A luxury brand worn by the likes of Biggie Smalls, Nas and Rakim in decades past, its very nature honors rap legends both past and present in a way only Cole could. Also a fan of Bob Marley, Cole found further inspiration for the collection while in Jamaica and stumbled upon a poster of Marley in Bally boots.

The J. Cole x Bally JC Hiker Boot is dressed in a bold mustard tone tanned to perfection for a rugged yet luxe aesthetic. Set atop an imposing white sole unit, the boot acts as a modern ode to the footwear companions helmed by New York’s finest during the formidable 90’s rap era. Cole knows this history better than most, and made sure it was visibly represented in his dealings with Bally design director, Pablo Coppola.

In line with Bally’s fall ’15 releases, the J. Cole x Bally Boot Collection is available now in limited numbers for $750.
