Five years ago, Jeff Green‘s NBA career was put on hold after doctors found an aortic aneurysm in his heart. To correct the issue, Green needed surgery that forced him to miss the entire lockout-shortened 2011-2012 season. Thankfully, the surgery was a success and Green is healthy and just signed a new contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Since he is at the five year anniversary of his surgery, Green wrote about it over at The Players’ Tribune and he also shared a story about his Air Jordan XXXI PE in an accompanying video. Green says in the video that Jordan Brand designed the colorway of the shoe with him in mind as it commemorates his heart surgery.
