San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has signed an endorsement deal with Jordan Brand, according to a new report by ESPN. Garoppolo and other newly signed Jordan Brand athletes will be officially announced before the start of the NFL regular season next weekend.
Growing in up Arlington Heights, Illinois, a Chicago suburb, Garoppolo, 26, has been a fan of Jordan Brand as far back as he could remember. Thus, his signing with the brand holds unique sentimental value. “Since I got in the league, it was one of my dreams to be with Jordan and it came true, so I’m pretty excited about it,” Jimmy told ESPN.
Garoppolo is still riding high off of his five-game win streak for the Niners at the close of last season. He was traded to the 49ers last October after backing up Tom Brady in New England.
Jordan Brand was always Garoppolo’s first choice as an endorser. Given his hometown, love for Michael Jordan, and other Chicago sports heroes, the stars were aligned through Jordan Brand. However, he was presented by others including Under Armour, Adidas, and Nike last spring. Around that time, Jordan Brand allowed the quarterback to test out Air Jordan cleats (although he considers the Air Jordan 3 his favorite). The writing was on the walls.
Terms of Garoppolo’s budding deal have not yet been disclosed. He did, however, tell ESPN that he’ll be wearing something special during the season opener against the Minnesota Vikings on September 9.
