With the Nike KD 8 slated to make its official debut in stores later this month, the inspiration behind Durant’s eighth signature shoe with Nike Basketball continues to evolve, as exampled today by KD himself and the shoe’s designer, Leo Chang.

Completely unique from any of Durant’s past signatures, the shoe takes on a running aesthetic, one that includes the newly introduced Flyweave upper and segmented Zoom Air bag implementation. Both Durant and Chang champion a matte red Camaro Durant once owned as inspiration, alongside the cold-blooded killer that is the saber tooth tiger for the shoe’s first “Bright Crimson” colorway.

Chang goes on to detail engineered textiles and advancements in performance cues to the Nike KD 8 being the most innovative hoops silhouette of its time. Read more on this story over at Complex and look out for the KD 8 on June 27.
