Kevin Durant is a remarkable player and may be an even better person. The reigning NBA MVP recently helped one of his largest fans recover from a traumatic ordeal. Detroit-area teenager Anthony Cupp was unfortunately robbed prior to the Thanksgiving holidays of his newly-bought pair of Kevin Durant sneakers. Utilizing weeks of hard earned money, Cupp and his family were devastated at the tragic event, with his mother describing the situation as “horrifying”.
With the help of the Detroit Pistons, Kevin Durant and Cupp were able to meet during Sunday’s matchup between the Pistons and Thunder, in which Cupp would personally receive two pairs of Nike KD 7s, one in which came in Durant’s size and the other being in Cupp’s. In addition, the teenager received various KD apparel such as a jacket and a backpack.
With Durant being one of the league’s marquee names, he stated to the OKC Thunder’s website the importance of utilizing his platform. The stellar forwards states:
“We’ve got such a big platform, man, and kids look up to us. To set a good example, we just have to show them that we’re human, too. They look at us as superheroes sometimes. So just to sit and talk to them, ask them how their day went, ask them where they’re from, make them feel like they are where they belong. We may seem untouchable, but we aren’t. That’s the biggest thing I wanted to show him. I’m a human just like you. I go through things just like you. Even though I play in the NBA, I’m here for you.”
With sneaker culture having its fair share of violent events, as of recent years; its refreshing to finally see the sneaker culture produce some good news.
