Chris Webber Breaks Out “Chrome” DaDa CDubbz at 2002 All-Star Game
To me, it doesn’t get any more memorable than Chris Webber breaking out the “Chrome” DaDa CDubbz at the 2002 All-Star Game. With the rise of the information superhighway and how it runs today, it’s rare that somebody can break out a shoe that no one’s ever seen or heard of and completely surprise the world. I still remember watching it in my buddy John Galligan’s basement and almost losing track of the game trying to follow his feet. Needless, to say I’d love to see this colorway retro.
A close second is a missed moment that also involves a Sacramento star. During the 2001 NBA Playoffs, the Kings were looking to make some noise. Even though J Will was my favorite player, for some reason I was outside hooping in the driveway while the game was on. When I came back in, my dad let me know that they showed a close-up of his shoes and that Bill Walton and the crew were commentating and cracking some jokes. Those shoes ended up being the Hyperflights, and I ended up going to the mall on release morning to pick up a pair. It’s funny with the internet really not popping like that back then how hard it was to find a picture of shoes that somebody was wearing on court. Just the same, with no YouTube back then, the video attached is the first time I’ve ever seen a moment that I’ve remembered but never actually seen for 12 years. I had to go off glimpses from SportsCenter highlights to imagine what they looked like till SLAM ads hit and they launched at Foot Locker. I still would love to have that purple pair.
