It’s media day, and Cal Shapiro and Rob Resnick just woke up in Chicago. Better known collectively as Timeflies, the duo begins the morning by discussing what Jordans they’ll wear that night to perform at halftime of the Chicago Bulls game. “Playoff” 11s only seem right, while “Toro Bravo” 5s would’ve been rocked had they made it into the luggage. It appears it will literally be a game time decision.

While Cal and Rob’s current rotation ranges from “Black Cat” 4s to “Fighter Jet” Foamposites, both are honest and lighthearted about their humble and fairly recent taking to sneakers. We caught up with Timeflies to hear about the shoes that got them hooked in this installment of Kickstarter.

Cal Shapiro: “I remember I was a junior or sophomore in high school. Me and a couple of the other kids were skipping the last two classes of school and driving into the city to go to Flight Club NYC. I really hadn’t seen any of it. When I saw all the shoes saran wrapped I didn’t know what I was getting into. I came home with a pair of Air Jordan 1s and it kind of peaked me interest. From there, I ended up getting a pair of Reebok Pumps and then I was just into classics. I started branching out and following all the (Jordan) 4s and 5s. When I got the ‘Fear’ 5s I didn’t take those off for like two months.”

Rob Resnick: “For me, my first pair that I was really excited about was the “Photo Blue” 9s. Definitely not the coolest pair [laughs], but they got me really into 9s and from then on I was kind of like a 9 guy. Now they’re really beaten up and I probably haven’t worn them in like two years. With the white sole I couldn’t wear them too much, so I ended up getting the ‘Black Bottoms.’ I can wear those everyday and you can’t tell. I think the 9s are the most comfortable still. I’m not really wearing them around as flashy, but more as my everyday. ‘Space Jam’ 11s are probably my favorite shoes to wear for performing. The ‘Concords’ are a good one, but I’m really trying to get the ‘DMP’ 11s. We’ll see if that happens.”

Timeflies’ new album After Hours is available now on iTunes.
