NBA All-Star and cultural icon Stephen Curry is set to don a pair of custom Curry 8 kicks tonight during the Warriors’ match up against the Clippers. Inspired by Netflix’s reality series, Last Chance U: Basketball, the custom sneakers were designed by LA-based artist Salvador ‘Kickstradomis’ Amezcua.
Curry originally debuted the pair via his social media accounts along with the caption, “@LastChanceU reppin the grit and the grind.”
The pair features gold to green ombre on the upper and a matching speckled midsole. The colors used represent grit, while the dip on the midsole is a nod to the sweat and work that goes into every match.
Other design elements include the semicircle that represents both a basketball and East LA, a husky eye as a reference to the ELAC mascot (along with the underdog mentality of the JUCO players), the “Every Shot Counts” verbiage found on the inside panel, and finally “Last Chance” on the insole to represent both the players and the show.
On the collaboration with Curry, Kickstradomis shared in an official press release, “Working on this pair for Stephen and Last Chance U was an incredible experience. I was able to integrate the colors, mascot and nods to Los Angeles, which is where I grew up. Partnering with Stephen, who wasn’t the most highly recruited prospect coming out of high school, made sense. This was a special way to commemorate ELAC, Last Chance U, and honor those who have the odds stacked against them but keep fighting.”
One lucky fan will also be given the chance to win their very own pair. All you have to do is enter The Last Chance ShUs sweepstakes, which go live today at tip-off. Follow @LastChanceU for more details on how to enter.
