The LA-based brand, Kids of Immigrants, has made a name for itself in fashion for its storytelling and dedication to its community. The brand has teamed up with Vans to release its iteration on the Old Skool skate shoe.
This Kids of Immigrants x Vans Old Skool “Anything Is Possible” was inspired by the brands founders Daniel Buezo and Weleh Dennis. Buezo and Dennis pride themselves on their commitment to empowering immigrants and this collaboration pays homage to their upbringings as first-generation Americans. The silhouette allows them to wear their stories with pride. This offering of the skate shoe is a nostalgic mosaic dressed in various materials including paisley, velvet, corduroy, shearling, and patent leather. A Chinese laundry bag-inspired insole, a yellow sole reminiscent of household lamps, and lining of coordinates that connect to the apartment where KOI first began, all of these elements top off the look and represent the true DNA of the brand.
Furthermore, the name of the shoe, Anything is Possible, stems from the beloved speaker and author Rob Hill who brings his signature, positive affirmations to the release as the narrator of the campaign. In addition, the campaign imagery highlights three tenacious women: Aurora Santos, Jenny Le, and Kika Keith that all embody the spirit of Anything is Possible. As a commitment to their mission to empower the future generation, mentees from the organizations Color of Compton and Inner City Artist assisted in producing the photoshoot and lookbook. From set design to incorporating stills from these youth photographers, the experience allowed mentees to step into their dreams.
Rooted in community, love, and empowerment, Anything is Possible is more that a physical product. It serves as a vehicle to amplify voices, inspire and celebrate the people that nurtured KOI. This approach has set Kids of Immigrants apart and positioned them as leaders in fashion and beyond. The collective builds deep connections through products, events, and more, they have accumulated a cult following and a high demand for the brand nationwide. The brand has also become a favorite of creatives and talent such as Kehlani, Jhene Aiko, Lil Uzi Vert, Odell Beckham Jr., Bad Bunny, Dua Lipa, and more!
Like the history, culture, and beliefs behind Kids of Immigrants, the brand is unisex and for all people.
