The Chase
After years of disappointment that included two NBA finals losses and the demise of a dynasty, the Los Angeles Lakers were poised to re-build from a tumultuous middle-portion of the decade. With the acquisition of All-Star forward Pau Gasol during the 2007-2008 season, Kobe Bryant would secure his first NBA league MVP as his averages of 28.3 points per game, along with 6.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists per outing made his case for supremacy formidable.
However, while the accolades of that year were superb for Bryant and company, the Lakers would eventually fall short to the revamped Boston Celtics during the 2008 NBA Finals in which the Lakers would lose four games to two.
