One part of the six-piece collection that makes up Nike’s coveted “On Air” offering is the “Shanghai Kaleidoscope” 97s.
Shown in an official capacity today after emerging as the favorite from the grouping, it quickly looms larger just how impactful the “On Air” collection and this shoe specifically could be.
Designed by Cash Ru last year during Nike’s Air Max Day design contest, Ru was chosen to represent Shanghai and did so brilliantly with his Air Max 97 rendering.
Covered in light translucent layers that glow in a vibrant blue hue, a tonal suede mudguard blends into the base while white midsole tooling and red branding offset the sky blue primary.
In addition to the layered translucency, Ru further accentuates overlaying consistency both at the tongue and heel tabs — for which there are three each.
The same can be said for the Swoosh branding at the insole. It’s a play on dimensions; giving the shoe a fuller, grander look without adding excess weight.
Nike has not yet announced when the “On Air” collection will release.
For now, take a closer look at the Nike Air Max 97 “Shanghai Kaleidoscope” below and keep it locked for more.
