All-Star Weekend 2020 was filled with a lot of highlights. From Virgil Abloh’s collaborative Air Jordan 5 to LeBron James debuting another Space Jam 2-inspired colorway, a lot of the attention in Chicago was centered around the sneakers that flooded the streets.
In between all of the commotion that was ASW, LeBron James and Chicago natives Anthony Davis and Virgil Abloh made a stop at the Boys & Girl’s Club as part of a panel that officially announced the partnership between Nike and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boys & Girls Club in the East Garfield Park.
Virgil, LeBron and Anthony discussed the importance of giving back to the community. In addition to that, the designer and Los Angeles Lakers players judged a dunk contest featuring the members of the Boys and Girls Club.
The partnership encompasses new facilities and off-court programming that goes beyond the game of basketball. The brand will launch the Nike All-Star Academy that will challenge participants on-the-court with trainings and clinics from Nike Master Trainers and experienced coaches.
The Academy will provide club members with exposure to sport-related education topics through workshops and seminars in the areas of sport journalism, science and product design.
