words // Nick DePaula:
In one of the great early surprises of the season, LeBron James dipped back into his massive personal inventory of sneakers at his Akron home, and pulled out a pair of the Zoom LeBron 2 from the 2004-2005 NBA season.
Nicknamed the “Triple Double” LeBron 2, the shoe was very straightforwardly worn on January 19th, 2005 against the Portland Trail Blazers, when LeBron became the youngest player to ever record a triple double. His all-around statline of 27 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists came at just 20 years of age. It was also indeed a simpler time for sneaker nicknames.
For tonight’s Cavs Hardwood Classic jersey night, LeBron turned back the clock to a decade ago, and we’ll hopefully have more throwback Kicks On Court moments to come as the season continues on.
