words // Nick DePaula:

Naturally, LeBron James was asked about the insanely polarizing song that Kanye West dropped on New Year’s Eve. The tune, titled “FACTS,” takes relentless shots at Nike and Jordan Brand, while promoting his current partnership with adidas.

The song also takes a shot at LeBron, as Ye slyly says, that Nike “gave LeBron a billi’ not to run away.”

LeBron, in a group interview quoted by Cleveland.com, claims he hasn’t really heard the song yet, but stands by Nike, “no matter what.”

“Phil Knight’s greatest saying is ‘always listen to the heart of the athlete [and] listen to the words of the athlete,'” James said. “And that’s all it’s about, nothing else. Obviously I’m going to side with Nike no matter who it is. It’s just, it’s family when you talk about Nike, and I’m always on their side no matter what the situation is.”

What do you think of LeBron’s stance? Should he have taken more direct aim at Kanye, or did he make the right move to just deflect the question and state his commitment to Nike, like he recently did when asked about Under Armour.
