Michael Johnson once held the crown as the fastest man of the planet. He was in fact the fastest and undoubtedly, the coolest, too.
Johnson electrified the 1996 Games in Atlanta by masterfully breaking Olympic records and taking gold in both the 200m and 400m events. He did so in an unforgettable pair of gold Nike track spikes, matching gold chain and a hoop earring. Again, if they awarded medals for cool, Johnson would have as many as Phelps.
Nike pays homage to his iconic track and field moments in 1996 with this special edition Nike Zoom Pegasus 33 “Michael Johnson”.
The shoe doesn’t go full metallic gold like his footwear in ’96, they do however incorporate gold Swoosh branding, reinforcement and tongue script. The remainder of the mismatch pair evokes a spirit to patriotism, stirring emotions conjured by hues noted in the stars and stripes of the American flag.
Both men’s and women’s sizes of the Michael Johnson Pegasus 33 will be available on August 17. Pricing details have not yet been announced. Stay tuned.
