Earlier this year the Maison Margiela x Reebok “Memory Of” Collection made its debut featuring the Reebok Classic Leather and Reebok Club C as the main attraction. Now, Margiela and Reebok prepare for part two of the collection which includes two colorways of the Reebok Question, Reebok Zig 3D Storm, and the Reebok Instapump Fury.

Coming in colorways of white and black respectively, each pair is designed to continue Margiela’s ongoing dialogue with Reebok. The concept of “Memory Of” has long been a perspective of Maison Margiela. The technique evokes the impression of familiar elements through the deconstruction of garments and accessories. Under the creative direction of John Galliano, each of these Reebok silhouettes were carefully reimagined to emulate an object or feeling that is no longer materially visible, but palpable through an outline or suggestion: the memory of something that once was. As you take a look at the different sneakers, you’ll notice their classic fixtures combined with distressed details to create something that feels new, but nostalgic, all at the same time.

The Reebok Question is undoubtedly one of Reebok’s most iconic sneakers. Margiela gives the silhouette a deconstructed aesthetic by dressing both pairs in shredded leather with sections of the panels ripped out, revealing exposed foam underneath. Elsewhere the sneakers feature a new lacing system with elongated tongues for a dramatic touch in-line with the Margiela brand. Other Margiela details are seen on the inside of the tongues and co-branded insoles. To complete the look, the sneaker is finished with “22” in place of Iverson’s signature “3” on the heel.

The Reebok Zig 3D Storm keeps the silhouette’s original zig-shaped outsole but inverts the upper to expose the inner construction. As you take a closer look at the details, you’ll notice the shoe’s moulded heel padding with perforated finishes, a spliced tongue, a transparent window, and a printed shell with graphics of the shoe’s interior.

The Reebok Instapump Fury is avant garde in its own right, but Margiela elevates the silhouette even further. The back of the sneaker is redesigned by using flexible bridges. Utilizing Reebok’s Pump Technology, the silhouette increases in volume, adding to the floaty relief look of the design. Margiela also gives this sneaker a distressed look by peeling away the shoe’s layers.

The second half of the Maison Margiela x Reebok “Memory Of” Collection releases on May 20, 2022. To purchase, visit the Maison Margiela website, reebok.com, and select retailers. For more sneaker news and release dates, follow @NiceKicks on Instagram.
