January 2020 will be the start of a new decade and a new era for Nike. After serving as CEO since 2006, Mark Parker will be stepping down.
Filling the famous shoes of Phil Knight, Parker has had a remarkable run in Beaverton. Working with the Swoosh over the course of four decades, Parker will remain with Nike, becoming the company’s executive chairman next year.
Parker is set to be replaced by John Donahoe, who currently resides as the CEO of ServiceNow and is a Nike board member. Donahoe has experience as the former CEO of eBay and is chairman of the board at PayPal. It’s said this move signals Nike’s focus on digital.
This major move mirrors a recent market trend as Kevin Plank just stepped down at Under Armour as CEO as did adidas exec Eric Liedtke. Keep it locked to Nice Kicks for details on these industry moves.
