The recently released Martine Rose x Nike Air Monarch was already a conversation starter on its own, putting a size 18 Monarch upper on that of a size 9.
While the numeric variance in panel proportions caused a stir, the price-point difference highlighted on the #10YearChallenge between that and the original Monarch made even more noise.
In the spirit of Fashion Week, Martine Rose recently ran the editorial images for their FW19 collection as posted by HYPEBEAST. While several models are seen in “Triple Black” Monarchs, not suprising based on the recent collab, 2006’s Nike Air Max 360 is also on full display.
Seen in a noir sentiment ala the Monarchs, could this be a Martine Rose x Nike Air Max 360 collab? In 2019, it appears no silos are off limits with the Air Max 360 proving left field but also quite possible.
For reference, the Air Max 360 was essentially VaporMax before VaporMax but perhaps an even bigger deal. The revolutionary take on full-length Air was arguably a flop when it came to performance running – some could say the same about VaporMax though both do work – but a kickstart for the retro running craze thanks to timely hybrids and Nike’s “History of Air” Pack that paved the way for the launch.
The “Triple Black” pair featured in the Martine Rose editorial features a smoky black sole and what looks like embossed leather on the upper. It’s eerily simlar to 2006’s “Kashima Antlers” premium colorway though differs as this new version is solid black.
