If design is indeed an opinion then few people right now have a more unique or valued stance than Matthew Williams.

Of the Kanye collective of creatives, the man behind the Alyx Studio brand and chest bag popularized by Mr. West is set to be the latest designer from said camp to be scooped by the Swoosh.

Process images of 3D rapid prototype of the modular vibram outsole for my first @nike sneaker

Previewing a prototype of his upcoming footwear collaboration with the Swoosh, big branding is reminiscent of Nike’s React Vapor Street Flyknit while a sock styled upper with ankle zip closure harkens memories of the original ACRONYM x Nike Presto pack. Where things truly get funky and in Matthew’s bag is the removable Vibram sole which speaks to modular cushioning and aggressive straps. Whether or not the production version turns out like such remains to be seen. However, if the shoe does offer say a Vibram sole and a VaporMax sole, well, we may have something very interesting on our hands.

After a long wait, new images of Matthew M. Williams’ reported spring/summer 2019 Nike collaboration have surfaced. Black and Light Bone iterations of the modular sneaker show unique strapping mechanisms, a hefty Vibram sole unit, and Nike Free branding at the midsole which speaks to the shoe’s cushioning system courtesy of solebyjc.

Now seen in official images from @US_11, the Alyx Studios x Nike collaboration is on the way.

New images reveal convertible soles – both Vibram and Free – with the upper also appearing more sock-like in structure.

Now revealed in official fashion by the Swoosh, the Matthew M. Williams x Nike Free TR 3 SP is almost here.

“This shoe embodies the multi-functionality of our modern urban existence,” said Williams in a press release. “We are proud to have collaborated with Vibram on the detachable crampon rubber sole, which allows for the shoe to be used as a minimal trainer inside of a gym or as a resilient boot on city streets or park trails.”

For the ladies, the Matthew M. Williams x Nike Free TR 3 SP riffs off the Nike Free TR Flyknit 3 while referencing the Nike Elite High Quarter Sock. On the men’s side, the collab gives the Nike Free Train 3 track spike-inspired speed lacing and a medial zipper at the collar for easy entry.

The Matthew M. Williams x Nike Free TR 3 SP launches globally on June 27th. Those attending the NikeLab Chicago Re-Creation Center c/o Virgil Abloh will have early access on June 8th.
