The “Shattered Backboard” legacy is just one of the many aspects that add to Michael Jordan’s GOAT status. His Airness took flight to the next level during an overseas exhibition game as he shattered a backboard in style. This moment was something of almost folklore on the internet for many years but was widely celebrated by Jordan Brand in 2015 with the release of the “Shattered Backboard” Air Jordan 1.
Jordan, a member of the Stefanel Trieste team, rocked the orange and black jersey which would late become a part of the Air Jordan 1 resurgence and showcased Jordan Brand’s ability to retell stories like no one else. The iconic jersey, whether you’re a sneakerhead or an MJ historian, is a piece of history that is an absolute must-have.
The original jersey, which is also signed, can now be yours as Sotheby’s latest auction is headlined by the Stefanel Trieste threads.
In 1985 when Stefanel sponsored the Stefanel Trieste team, spectators witnessed a spectacular moment in sporting history, as Michael Jordan – almost flying – completed one of the most remarkable dunks of all time, shattering the backboard into thousands of pieces. 35 years later – after inspiring multiple Nike releases and colorways – the game worn and signed jersey from this iconic moment is finally coming to market.
