2016 is off to a slow start in regards to impactful sneaker releases, but nevertheless, we look back at some of the best. Did you cop any gems from January? From the “Achilles Heel” Kobe 11 to the Tubular Doom, check out the best sneaker releases of the first month of the year.
Under Armour Curry One “Friends & Family”
Originally shown as a “Friends & Family” exclusive, Under Armour opted to release this low-top Curry, which commemorates his championship campaign last season.
Nike Kobe 11 “Achilles Heel”
Bold red and black Flyknit contrasted with metallic gold accents on the most anticipated release of Kobe’s 11th signature shoe, which took place on January 9th. Obviously, the shoe’s nickname is inspired by the Black Mamba’s injury towards the end of the 2012-2013 NBA season.
Footpatrol x BEAMS x Saucony Shadow 8000 “Only In Tokyo” Re-Release
We were blessed with one more opportunity to obtain the collaborative effort between Footpatrol, BEAMS and Saucony. As a successor to 2013’s drop, the pig skin-textured “Only in Tokyo” 8000 re-released on the second Saturday of the month.
Under Armour Curry Two “Haight Street”
Inspired by Haight Street, the famed avenue in San Francisco’s tourist heavy Haight-Ashbury district, this UA Curry Two is adorned in a vibrant blue upper married to a white toe and patterned midsole.
Air Jordan 1 High Nouveau “BHM”
The slimmed down Air Jordan 1 Nouveau for Black History Month is quality at its finest. It features an enriched black leather construction mixed with multi-colored print on the Swoosh, collar and inside of the tongue.
Nike Basketball “Black History Month” Collection
Nike Basketball linked the KD 8, the LeBron 13, the Kobe 11 and the Kyrie 2 in what might be the most intensely-hued “Black History Month” collection yet.
Kith x adidas Consortium Tubular Doom
As part of their 12-month World Tour campaign, Kith and adidas Consortium came together to introduce the Tubular Doom silhouette in a cement grey PrimeKnit upper coupled with a charcoal wool cage. Both brands also looped in Stance in this collaborative effort on a special tri-branded crew sock.
Grenson x New Balance 576
One word: quality. New Balance teamed up with British brand Grenson to create one of the most stylish sneakers yet in 2016. NB called this 576, which features burnished Italian, calf-skin leather, the most ambitious sneaker they ever created.
adidas NMD PrimeKnit
adidas officially introduced the NMD PrimeKnit earlier this month to the excitement of many. The progressive design – constructed of the popular PrimeKnit material – flew out online.

Easily the most anticipated shoe of the year so far, the Just Don x Air Jordan 2 “Beach” brought out the lineups all over the USA for a chance at these monochromatic 2s. Does this collaborative effort trump the first one between Don and JB?
