Japanese fashion label Mountain Research and Reebok are teaming up once again, this time putting a removable lace guard on the iconic Reebok Club C II Mid dropping later this month.
“As the classic tennis shoe, I’ve wanted to work on Club C for some time,” commented Mountain Research founder, Setsumasa Kobayashi. “It also reminds me of ‘80s hip hop scenes where everyone wore white sneakers, which I always loved.” “The idea was to create something basic yet decorative,” continued Kobayashi. “The minimalistic look is meant to correspond to the strict tennis club dress codes of the era.”
The sneaker features a white leather base and overlays with royal blue accenting throughout. The most notable design feature is the removable kiltie with Mountain Research branding that mimics the Club C’s foam tongue and takes inspiration from cricket footwear protectors called pats. Reebok branding is seen on the lateral side as well as the heeltab and a white midsole and royal outsole finish off the sneaker.
The Mountain Research x Reebok Club C II Mid is set to drop on June 10th exclusively on sett.co.jp with a wider release dropping on June 17th via Reebok.com and at select retailers for $140.
