words & interview // Ian Stonebrook:

There are plenty of perks associated with pledging allegiance to Roc Nation. For starters, you get to work with the best and brightest in sports and entertainment and you also get to call the Big Homie boss. Aside from that, you get laced with kicks — and rare ones at that. The last two Grammy Brunch Parties hosted by Roc Nation have seen Jay Z’s decorated roster get dipped with exclusive Pro Models only to be followed by the Yeezy Boosts weeks before they came out.

While in-house producer Deputy has been gifted with such gems, his sneaker rotation relies on favorites from his childhood and seldom seen silos. We caught up with man behind the boards of Rihanna’s new single, “B*tch Better Have My Money,” to hear what he’s rocking for the latest My 5.

Air Jordan 6 Black/Infrared

Deputy: “I bought the 6s in 2000. I remember as a kid in ’91, I used to have them but my feet were too small to have the Air bubble option. It was greyed out and kids used to think I had fake Jordans on because they were children’s size. When I got to the age where I could get my own sneakers, I had to get them. I’ve had them in ’91, ’00 and ’14. I like them all, but I like the reflective underlays. That and the Air bubble got me. If I could get like 10 pairs of them and just have them stacked in the closet I’d be good.”
