Steph Curry has learned a lot during his decade in the Bay Area.
Removed from all his accomplishments on the court, Curry has been enriched by the Oaktown lifestyle he now inhabits. Among the most prominent is the city’s car culture, which dates back to the ‘80s through events known locally as “sideshows.”
Typically they take place in mall parking lots, where a bevy of adoring cars get together to create community surrounding people and music. The city’s hip hop culture was also growing when sideshows began to bubble, converging and ultimately cultivating the scene that beckons in the Bay Area today.
Curry honors the scene with his Under Armour 6 “Oakland Sideshow” edition which leans into the culture with color and specificity.
“I was determined to bring my love of cars and pay homage to the ‘Sideshow’ culture here – the spectacle that it is – that’s all Oakland,” said Curry in a press release. “I wanted to bring that story to life and pay respects to the car lovers out there.”
The Under Armour Curry 6 “Oakland Sideshow” will be available on March 1 online at UA, at select UA Brand Houses, and at select retail partners for $130. The shoe will release alongside a matching Stance sock.
Limited pairs of the new colorway will be available beginning today, February 22, at the SC30 x Oakland pop up shop located at 472 9th Street in downtown Oakland. The pop-up is open 12-7pm PT Friday through Sunday and during the Warriors’ home game days.
