Time is Illmatic

As seen by SLAM, hip-hop was louder than ever in 1994. Of all the appreciated albums, it doesn’t get much better than Illmatic, the debut album by Nas.

While Nasty Nas was best known for wearing boots and army fatigues during his debut days, Illmatic packs lines that are in every sneakerhead’s lyrical lexicon. From “I’m a Nike head/I wear chains that excite the Feds” to trading in his suede Timbs for “Nike Airs on his feet,” Nasir’s kick quotables remain most memorable from hip-hop’s goldenest of years.
