Sir Charles Claims King
With Michael gone from the game, it was suddenly time for Charles Barkley to become the face of Nike Basketball. The timing was pretty good, too. Barkley had just come off an MVP season and a trip to the NBA Finals. Sir Charles had plenty of fanfare, a good share of experience on camera and a strong streak of solid sneakers. All of Chuck’s shoes up to the ’94 season were good, but c’mon, they weren’t better than Mikes…

Styled like a straight jacket for basketball’s mad man, the shoe still stands as the most memorable model from Barkley’s oft retroed resume. While would could argue the Fab Five bodied him on his own joint with 1993’s Nike Air Force Max, nobody was claiming king but Sir Charles with the launch of the ’94s.
