This past weekend marked the release of the Air Jordan 4 “Alternate ’89,” a shoe that looks back at what would have been a Michael Jordan PE in Chicago Bulls home whites. Similarly, Nike returns an almost-signature of Jordan’s – the Nike Air Flight ’89.

Around 1989 the Nike think tank almost fused the Flight line with that of MJ’s namesake collection. Ultimately that didn’t happen, and the Air Flight ’89 was helmed (for the moment) by then Cleveland Cavalier, Ron Harper. He would of course later join the Bulls and win championships alongside Jordan. But his time in the Nike Air Flight ’89 was critical, as it helps tell the tale of the shoe.

That vignette continues with the Nike Air Flight ’89 White/University Red re-release this year. Stay tuned for more details.
