Beaverton mainstay Nike is paying tribute to the legendary Marion Franklin Rudy aka Frank Rudy with a special edition Air Max 90. Although not as popular as Phil Knight and Tinker Hatfield, M. Frank Rudy was the aerospace engineer who created Nike’s Air technology, which forever changed the footwear business. In 1978, Nike released the first shoe using his “Air” technology in the Air Tailwind and by 1980, he was able to patent the tech.
The special edition Nike Air Max 90 SE “M. Frank Rudy” features a clean white base constructed from a mix of leather, mesh, and suede materials. Special details include the blueprint insoles showing off the technology with Rudy’s signature, along with his iconic California “Nike Air” license plate as hangtags. Lastly, “EST 1990” verbiage is printed on the lateral Air unit, along with his name printed on the lace tips.
Fans will be able to purchase this Nike Air Max 90 SE “M. Frank Rudy” when it releases in the upcoming weeks via Nike.com and select retailers for $130. Keep it locked to our Sneaker Release Dates Calendar for updates.
