“Round Mound of Rebound”
Born in Leeds, Alabama, Charles Barkley would rise to prominence within the South as he would take his talents to Auburn University in 1981. With his bulky frame and stocky physique, Barkley would help lead the Tigers to new heights as he would garner All-American honors three times along with nabbing SEC Player of the Year in 1984. Sir Charles would average 14.8 points per game, in addition to 9.6 rebounds in career and subsequently declared for the 1984 NBA Draft.
After declaring for the 1984 NBA Draft, the Philadelphia 76ers would take Barkley with the fifth pick and the legend of Sir Charles would grow from there.
