While many brands will quickly find the bottom of their respective vaults after re-issuing past sneakers year after year, Nike’s endless catalog continues to produce ripeness in modern-day. For spring/summer 2019, it appears they’ll return the Air Zoom Alpha circa 1996.
A foundational runner that inspired silhouettes like the Air Zoom Spiridon, the low-cut, mixed material style for which the Spiridon took its entire tooling, will return next year in its OG blue colorway. There will also be others, as its expected that at least six colorways will help re-introduce the Zoom Alpha for spring.
The “Binary Blue” ode to the original is expected to be the first to release, blending premium leather and mesh above Zoom Air cushioning.
Release details will soon follow but for now, get a better look at our pair of the OG Nike Air Zoom Alpha in photos from Rob Mata below. For those keeping track at home, our own Matt Halfhill called for a retro of these back in 2014, peep the other Zoom Runners he wants back here.
Update 2/22: 1996’s Zoom Alpha is finally set to return to select global retailers on February 28. Grab a closer look at the OG “Binary Blue” colorway and new Black/Volt courtesy of 43einhalb.
