The 45th anniversary of the Nike Cortez has already ignited the first half of 2017 with stellar releases in homage to the shoe’s long tenured success, and its regional adoration on the left coast. Today, though, the cultural icon tributes a cinematic moment that bolstered its appeal to a global stage.

In 1994 Forrest Gump was everyone’s favorite picture, as it championed a performance by Tom Hanks that remains one of his best. Hanks’ character wore this White/Royal-Red iteration of the shoe in the film and since then it’s been one the masses love. This Cortez has been released over the years in multiple forms, but on June 1, Nike will release the shoe in OG fashion.
