On Friday afternoon, President Donald Trump signed an executive order banning refugees, immigrants and visitors from seven Muslim countries from lawful entry into the U.S. for 90 days. Muslim citizens from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen were halted are airports all across the country this weekend, causing protests at those very same destinations. Sadly and without warrant, even legal green card holders were not permitted into the U.S. until several federal judges temporarily ruled in their favor Saturday afternoon.
Nike CEO, Mark Parker, made a statement regarding the order enacted by President Trump in a company wide email. He swiftly condemned Trump’s actions stating “This is a policy we don’t support.” In addition, Parker spoke to the equality within his company and the diversity of its affiliates by referencing distance runner Mo Farah, a Somalia who moved to Britain as a child and currently resides in Portland with his family.
“Nike stands together against any form of bigotry and any form of discrimination,” Parker remarked, before closing the short yet potent statement by saying “We are at our best when we recognize the value of our diverse community.”
Parker, always at the forefront of social issues, continues to stand as one of the most thoughtful CEO’s in our industry. His words, followed by meaningful action, celebrate the best of our culture and the unified foundation in which it was built. See his full statement below.
