Calvin Johnson is one of the most gifted athletes on the football field, but also one of the hardest working athletes off of it. The Nike CJ81 Trainer Max is built for his grueling training regimen with insights from the athlete himself. Johnson had the following to say about his first signature shoe:
“Nike designers approached my CJ81 Trainer in the same way they approached my cleat, taking insights directly from the way I train. I told them my cleat should be built like a sports car for game day – low and lean with a tight suspension so I can feel the ground. But my trainers should feel like an SUV — a comfortable ride for my long training days that doesn’t sacrifice performance and protection.”
The Nike CJ81 Trainer Max relies on Max Air cushioning for high impact training and a dynamic midfoot strap for lateral movements. A lightweight proprioceptive ankle collar provides the feel of a low top with enhanced stability and support. Lastly, an on demand traction system takes well to different surfaces and training tasks.
Two new colorways play off Johnson’s prep days and tomorrow’s high school hopefuls. The “Sandy Creek” edition tributes Calvin’s beginnings in the game at Sandy Creek High School. CJ had trouble catching at first, but stuck with the game and became great. School colors highlight this makeup, with the school’s motto “From Good to Great” appearing on the printed on the inside of the strap. “The Opening” finds inspiration from Nike Football’s event of the same name, with bold colors matching bold athleticism. Look for the “Sandy Creek” colorway to launch on June 29th and “The Opening” edition to release on July 10th at Nike Store locations and at select Nike accounts.
