After monumental success followed the debut of the Nike Magista, a sequel was all but expected. Nike, today, unveils the Magista successor and its richly dense design process.
Created by Nike football designer Phil Woodman, the Nike Magista 2, firstly, looked upon the OG Magista silhouette for guidance. From its mid-cut collar and Flyknit infused build, the shoe changed soccer boots forever. Thus, Woodman went into the conceptual process with that in mind.
“We were focused on sensory amplification through feel,” Woodman stated. “By delivering a better feel for the ball, players are able to confidently create on the pitch without distraction.”
With help from the Nike Sports Research Lab, the Magista 2 keyed on parts of the foot that are most sensitive to touch and mapped those against high-touch zones. The data, in its critical importance, was visually applied to the model in the form of a heat map, which in a genius effort reveals high sensation, effectiveness and engagement areas. Woodman then began 3D print testing to fine tune these unique specifications.
A contoured Dynamic Fit Collar acts as the greatest build alteration to the Magista 2, designed to accommodate the shape of ankle bone. A new traction system has also been implemented along with reconfigured stud placement.
