To the surprise of no one, Nike is leading all competitors in athletic footwear sales out of the gate in 2015. Stateside, Nike and Jordan Brand maintain a sizable gap differential in terms of first quarter sales, and their share of the current market.
At the close of the first quarter this year, Nike and Jordan Brand represent 62% of the market, with Sketchers and adidas in second and third position at 5% market total, respectively. Just outside of medal placement is ASICS, with a very well noted 4% market share.
Again, news that Nike is far out in front is not at all alarming. But with Pharrell and Kanye drops for adidas in the first quarter, and a reported 29% increase in sales since the two came abroad, by the end of the fiscal year these figures could change drastically. Could adidas lessen this gap by end of 2015? Sound off below and let us know what you predict.
