Synthetic Skinwire vs Leather/Nubuck
Durability is a key characteristic for any basketball sneaker these days. No one wants a sneaker that will only last half a season. With that said, the Nike Hyperdunk is a rather durable sneaker as it possesses battle-tested textures including leather and nubuck. The Nike Hyperdunk 2010 owns a newly-developed synthetic Skinwire texture which doesn’t seems as sturdy. It almost seems as if the new material is similar to a plastic substance. The Nike Hyperdunk contains leather/nubuck in sections where the most stress occurs (toe & section between the toe and side panel), whereas the Hyperdunk 2010 uses the synthetic material, along with Flywire technology in the same places.

Traction
Herringbone Traction
Traction is one of the Nike Hyperdunk’s biggest weaknesses according to many wearers. Its indented, recessed herringbone pattern easily picks up dust and other particles which ultimately produce a sleek surface. The updated Nike Hyperdunk 2010’s outsole features many more contrasting indents and acts as a cleat-like traction bed against the hardwood.

Heel Unit
TPU Heel Cup vs Lunar Heel Cup
Much like the aforementioned sole differential, the heel unit characteristic plays a big part in comfort level and cushioning. The Hyperdunk 2010 uses a TPU heel unit which provides a high amount of durability, stability and support. The Hyperdunk’s heel unit is comprised of Lunar Foam, which, as stated earlier, has received a vast amount criticism for its lack durability.
