As anticipation for the 2018-19 NBA season continues to mount, running concurrently is the very valid hype surrounding LeBron James‘ 16th signature silhouette — the Nike LeBron 16. Trailing the LeBron Watch last season — arguably the most exciting initiative for a signature shoe in years — it’ll be interesting to take in the rollout of one of James’ most anticipated sneakers and NBA seasons of his career.
At no other time in his career has James been such a dominating cultural figure. His presence in Los Angeles alongside numerous film and television projects will only work to heighten his global influence. Yet from a very singular standpoint regarding the upcoming season, his very first game as a Laker and the sneakers he wears is an intriguing sub-category to a much wider story.
It’s assumed that James will lace up the Nike LeBron 16 “King” for his season opener, on October 18, on the road against the Portland Trailblazers. Release details for the shoe have not yet been announced.

Update 10/9: Official images of the Nike LeBron 16 “King” have been revealed. The shoe is slated to release on October 15 one day before the start of the 2018-19 NBA season. It’s widely assumed James will kick-off the season in his “King” 16s.
Update 10/18: The “King” Nike LeBron 16 will release tonight when the Los Angeles Lakers kick off their regular season. Pairs will be available at 10:30 EDT on Nike SNKRS. James is still expected to lace up the shoe for his regular season Lakers debut.
