Earlier today, New York Daily News released an article suggesting that Nike may have been involved in the Lance Armstrong doping case and possible cover up. The claim comes from an under oath testimony during a 2006 deposition from Kathy LeMond, wife of American cyclist Greg LeMond, stating that Nike paid former UCI president Hein Verbruggen $500,000 to cover up a positive drug test.
Nike released the following statement:
“In response to the offensive allegations in today?s New York Daily News, Nike vehemently denies that it paid former UCI president Hein Verbruggen $500,000 to cover up a positive drug test. Nike does not condone the use of illegal performance enhancing drugs.”
