When the 2009 NCAA Football season started, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama occupied 4 of the top 5 spots in the polls, and with OU and USC’s losses, the remaining three of the four take the top three spots. While it’s too early to give any of these four teams a bowl nod or trophy just yet, it looks like Nike found these credentials worthy of a Nike Trainer 1 PE.
Although not confirmed as a rivalry pack, the choice of schools does become a bit clearer when you consider the Big 12 and SEC implications of games between these teams. For Florida and Bama, an SEC Championship matchup means one team could be heading to the National Championship. And for Texas and OU, a mid-season shootout in Dallas decides which team can start packing for the Big 12 Championship and a National Championship, and which team is settling for second best. Each pair is decked out with their respective team’s colors and a tongue logo. Texas and Florida’s PE each get a healthy dose of orange, though Texas’s distinct Burnt Orange works without royal blue like Florida’s, which includes a multi-color liner. Bama and OU’s crimson adorns the next two pairs, with an extra splash of grey for the Crimson Tide’s trainers. Bama’s liner also uses a grey and white Houndstooth print as an ode to legendary coach Bear Bryant. If you spend Saturday rooting for any of these schools, scoop these up, because retail university PE’s are few and far between. All four pairs are available now at Eastbay.
