With almost no warning, the Nike Zoom Kobe V “Draft Day” has landed at select retailers, including Nike Store. Designed with the same color scheme as the Zoom Kobe IV that uses the same name, this shoe pays tribute to the 1996 drafting of Kobe Bryant by the Charlotte Hornets. That franchise would trade Kobe that day to Los Angeles in what could easily be labeled as one of the worst trades in Draft Day history.
Bob Bass’s (then-Hornets GM) move may top the last of bad decisions, much the same as the ZKV may top the list for performance basketball sneakers. This particular color-up relies on a mostly white upper, with Orion Blue appearing on the outsole, heel and high-gloss Swoosh. Purple also appears throughout to further relate these to the then-Charlotte Hornets. Where do these rank on the list of Kobe Vs that we’ve seen this season?
