Today brought about a combination of old meeting new. Live from the age-old LA Forum, the former Lakers arena, Kobe Bryant and Nike unveiled Kobe’s fifth signature Nike sneaker dubbed the Zoom Kobe V. The Nike Zoom Kobe IV was arguably the best and most innovative basketball sneaker for the 2008-09 season. However, Kobe Bryant, Creator Director Eric Avar and Senior Researcher Matt Nurse joined efforts to produced an even better sneaker performance-wise. Weighing in at 10.6 ounces, the Nike Zoom Kobe V instantly becomes the lightest Nike basketball shoe ever created. “I wanted to push the envelope with a shoe that meets the demands of my style of play,” Bryant said. “The Kobe V is lighter, lower and more stable. Nike has done it again.” This shoe definitely goes in the opposite direction of any basketball sneaker to date. It draws most of its inspiration from the soccer field. Some of its distinctive features include phylon midsole and a low profile for responsive cushioning, herringbone traction, glass fiber for extreme arch support and a flywire design composed of TPU skin that is half the weight and makeup of the original flywire design. Pertaining to its performance attributes, Kobe stated that when wearing this sneaker, one “does not lose seconds.” Click here to see detailed shots of the Nike Zoom Kobe V unveiling. |
