Today, Nike is celebrating the second annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Day Sale where all law enforcement officers will receive 30% off at Nike and Converse stores simply by showing their ID or badge. The sale coincides with National Police Week.
Not everyone is taking part in the celebration of honoring those who are sworn to protect and serve their communities though.
Twitter backlash erupted this afternoon with the timing of the sale falling shortly after high-profile killings of unarmed citizens by police. Some have brought up the number of individuals killed so far this year at the hands of police.
While it is without question that this sale was planned far in advance of any of the unfortunate incidents that have been drawing tons of media attention, one has to ask if there was consideration that this sale would be postponed in light of recent events.
It should be noted that Nike has a long standing commitment to all men and women who serve our communities and our nation with special promotions and discounts.

@nike during this volatile time #LawEnforcementAppreciationDay is (somewhat) implicitly supporting the death of your targeted customers. — Damon Williams (@Damon_AF) May 13, 2015
