Nike has officially unveiled their new building, The LeBron James Innovation Center, at Nike World Headquarters which features the Nike Sports Research Lab and more.
The LeBron James Innovation Center is a modern interpretation of Bill Bowerman’s lab, where innovation and collaboration push performance in athletics forward. The newly minted Nike Sports Research Lab is the pinnacle of sports research, with the world’s largest motion camera system with 400 cameras, over 80 prototyping machines, and 825 pieces of testing equipment overall at the NSRL.
The LeBron James Innovation Center is also where prototyping and testing can be accelerated in-house. “In the innovation space, we take information from the NSRL, and we are able to look at different ways to solve an athlete’s problem. It gets extremely interesting,” says Janett Nichol, VP of Apparel Innovation. “In a conventional way of building a product, we would just go straight to a material, get a pattern, sew it, and then that would be it. Here, we can go to anything from biology or chemistry to pushing the limits of a machine to create a very different experience with material.
The building is filled with homages and tidbits for LeBron, such as a huge mosaic mural featuring him and his mother Gloria and an exhibit featuring never before seen prototypes of LeBrons from Jason Petrie.
