UPDATE (09/06):
22-year-old Deng Buk was arrested on September 4, a day after the shooting took place. According to police, Buk allegedly was part of the group that shot and killed 41-year-old Deliford Knight of Florida on September 3 at approximately 3:19 p.m.
According to KSL, Knight’s friends told police that “they travel across the U.S., where they attend sneaker events and play ‘shell games’ to defraud people out of money. They flew to Salt Lake City to attend Sneaker Con at the Salt Palace.”
Arrest documents state that one of the murder suspects lost money to Knight because of the shell game and became angry.
Buk and two other suspects started to fight Knight and tried to get their money back when the shooter pointed the gun at Knight’s chest and chased him until he fell to the ground. The shooter kicked Knight and shot him in the chest.
Police are still looking for leads on the remaining suspects.

Officers arrived to a “very chaotic scene,” Weisberg said, and found the victim lying in the street in critical condition. They attempted life-saving measures and the victim was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where they died. The victim’s family has been notified, but their name has not been released yet.
Weisberg said a group of multiple suspects immediately fled in a vehicle, and officers from multiple agencies across Salt Lake County are working to find the vehicle and the suspects. It was not immediately known whether there was more than one shooter, but Weisberg confirmed there were multiple suspects involved that could have attended the Sneaker Con show. No arrests have been made as of Saturday evening.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities review area CCTV footage. Police said there is no active threat to the community, although the suspects are still at large.
Authorities asked anyone with further information on the shooting to contact SLCPD at 801-799-3000.

We reached out to Sneaker Con and they furnished this statement to Nice Kicks regarding today’s tragic event.
“We were made aware of the unfortunate shooting outside of the Salt Palace Convention Center.
Authorities informed us that the incident related to an altercation outside the convention center arising from a Three-Card Monte game, a coordinated playing card scam taking place throughout the United States.
The altercation was not affiliated with our Sneaker Con event, nor did the suspected Three-Card Monte orchestrators attend our event.
Sneaker Con has made itself available for local authorities to assist in their investigation.”
