Yesterday, Ken Griffey Jr. officially announced his retirement after 22 seasons of baseball. Whether or not you followed America’s Game closely over the past two decades, it was hard not to be captivated by the one they called Junior. The once brash youngster made a name for himself with his dazzling outfield plays and his seamless swing. His 22 years of play also saw one of the best signature lines of any Nike athlete. We take a look back at some of the Nike cleats and trainers that helped make the Kid a household name during his playing days and immortal among sneaker heads.
Nike Diamond Fury ’94
Before Junior got his own signature line, he endorsed the ’94 version of the Nike Diamond Fury. The cleats and trainer featured a loud black and teal upper with “JR” on the tongue and a metallic 24 embroidered on the collar. Think the baseball version of the Nike Air Up.
